Box Score 2 LAREDO, Texas – Tyler Harris threw a one-hit shutout in game one and Marshall Burford drove in five runs in game two to lead St. Edward's to a doubleheader sweep of Texas A&M-International Friday afternoon at Jorge Haynes Field. St. Edward's shutout the Dustdevils, 10-0 in game one and hung on for an 8-5 victory in game two.
Game 1
Tyler Harris (Houston, Texas/Cisco JC) was on point in the first game of the doubleheader. The senior righthander only allowed an infield single during his seven innings of work. Harris walked four and struck out three in 7.0 innings of action.
St. Edward's (14-6, 11-5 HC) went in order the first two innings but finally broke through in the third inning. The Hilltoppers would score in every inning.
Taylor Johnson (Dripping Springs, Texas/Dripping Springs HS), Kyle Harris (Layton, Utah/Clarendon JC), Wes Koenig (Austin, Texas/Hill JC), Ransom LaLonde (Tulsa, Okla./UT-San Antonio) and Beau Rogers (Carbonado, Wash./Tacoma CC) all had two hits each. Harris and AJ Hermanson (Georgetown, Texas/Georgetown HS) both had two RBI.
Harris improves to 5-1 on the season.
Game 2
In the second game, the Hilltoppers raced out to a 4-0 lead in the first inning. Both Adam Shank (Sugar Land, Texas/San Jacinto JC) and Koenig drove in one run, and Burford (Austin, Texas/Temple JC) capped of the scoring with his fifth home run of the season. It was a two-run shot to left field to make the score, 4-0.
After single runs by the Dustdevils in the first and fourth innings, St. Edward's would score two runs in the fifth inning. Burford picked up another RBI and Colin Elmore (Dallas, Texas/Richland JC) drove in the other.
TAMU-International would claw its way back in to the game with a run in the seventh and two more in the eighth. The Hilltoppers got two runs back in the top of the ninth inning. Burford was clutch once again, driving in two more runs to make the score, 8-5.
Stephen Johnson (Boulder, Colo./Boulder HS) would close the door in the ninth for his fourth save of the year. The junior righthander threw two innings ofacgtion
Brad Nasis (Bulverde, Texas/Smithson Valley HS) picked up the victory in relief, allowing three runs on five hits in 2.2 innings of work.
St. Edward's and Texas A&M-International will finish off their three-game series on Saturday. First-pitch is set for Saturday at 12 p.m. Live stats, audio and video will be available on the Hilltopper Athletic Website.
