Hilltoppers make it look easy as they defeat the Jaguars, 6-3

Box Score VICTORIA, Texas – The St. Edward's baseball team defeated University of Houston-Victoria, 6-3, Wednesday evening at Riverside Field. The Hilltoppers have now won 14 of its past 16 games. St. Edward's (16-6) got on the board first as Beau Rogers (Carbonado, Wash./Tacoma CC) scored off of a fielding error by University of Houston Victoria's (7-14). Marshall Burford (Austin, Texas/Temple JC) reached on a fielder's choice giving Max Minor (Austin, Texas/Blinn JC), who pinch ran for Kyle Harris (Layton, Utah/Clarendon JC), a chance to score. This gave the Hilltoppers an early lead over the Jaguars, 2-0. In the third inning the Hilltoppers would score a third run as Adam Shank (Sugar Land, Texas/San Jacinto JC) hit a double down the right field line. Wes Koenig (Austin, Texas/Hill JC) followed with a single to deep center field giving enough time for Shank to score while he advanced to second on the throw. St. Edward's collected another run in the fourth inning as Will McCaleb (Houston, Texas/Blinn JC) and A.J. Hermanson (Georgetown, Texas/Georgetown HS) both singled to right field. McCaleb would advance to third on Hermanson's hit and would be brought home as Rogers singled to left field. This extended the Hilltopper lead to 4-0. Continuing to collect runs the Hilltoppers would extend their lead to 5-0 as Burford hit a double down the right field line and was brought in off of a single to left field by Ransom LaLonde (Tulsa, Okla./UT-San Antonio). Shank would score the last run for the Hilltoppers in the game during the seventh inning as launched his second home run of the season. After successfully shutting out the Jaguars for six innings, allowing only one hit Brad Nasis (Bulverde, Texas/Smithson Valley HS) was able to leave the field. With the score now 6-0 in favor of the Hilltoppers, the Jaguars would get on the board as Andrew Thibodeaux hit a homerun to left field brining in two fellow Jaguars making the score 6-3. Nasis collected the win after pitching six innings; having five strikeouts and giving up only one hit and one walk. St. Edward's will be back in action this weekend as they travel to take on UA Fort Smith in a three game series at Crowder Field in Fort Smith, Ark. The games have been shifted to a Sunday doubleheader at 1 p.m. and a single game at 1 p.m. on Monday.
