Box Score AUSTIN, Texas – The St. Edward's baseball team pulled out the win over Northwood, 5-4, Tuesday afternoon at Lucian-Hamilton Field. St. Edward's (28-9) took to the board first, securing two runs in the first inning off of back-to-back-to-back doubles.
Taylor Johnson (Dripping Springs, Texas/Dripping Springs HS) got on after sending a double to left center and advanced to third on a wild pitch. Kyle Harris (Layton, Utah/Clarendon JC) then doubled to left field bringing in T. Johnson.
Adam Shank (Sugar Land, Texas/San Jacinto JC) would follow up with a third double bringing in K. Harris. Northwood (21-19-1) would score in the third inning making the score 2-1 in favor of the Hilltoppers. Neither team would score again until the sixth inning as both pitchers would only allow one hit a piece.
In the sixth, St. Edward's would get some momentum as Wes Koenig (Austin, Texas/Hill JC) got on after being hit by the pitch and would be brought home as Ransom LaLonde (Tulsa, Okla./UT-San Antonio) secured his second homerun of the season, sending the ball flying over the left field fence. With the score now 4-1, Northwood would feel the pressure to come up with something and would secure a run in the eighth as Colton Atwell flied out to left field giving Edwin Arroyo time to score. Northwood would then tie up the game in the ninth scoring two runs.
The game would extend to the 10th inning where the Hilltoppers would load the bases and would secure the win as Joe Pirozzolo (The Woodlands, Texas/College Park HS) was hit by a pitch bringing in AJ Hermanson (Georgetown, Texas/Georgetown HS).
The Hilltoppers would win 5-4. Leaders for the Knights were Teddy Nowell who had two hits and one RBI, followed by Arroyo and Atwell who each had one hit and one RBI. Leaders for the Hilltoppers included LaLonde who had two RBI off of the only homerun of the game, followed by Shank and Harris who each had one hit and one RBI.
Ross Speed (Austin, Texas/Baylor) would take the win for the Hilltoppers after pitching 1.2 innings allowing only one hit. However, Paul Smith (Austin, Texas/McNeil HS) pitched the first seven innings allowing only two runs (one earned) off of seven hits. St. Edward's will be back in action this weekend as they travel to take on rival St. Mary's in a three-game series in San Antonio, Texas.
The series will open up on Saturday at 1 p.m. with a doubleheader at the San Antonio ISD Stadium. The two teams will wrap up the series with a single game on Sunday at 1 p.m.
