Box Score SAN ANTONIO, Texas – The St. Edward's baseball team lost the final game of the series against rival #1 St. Mary's, 7-1, Sunday afternoon at the San Antonio Spring Sports Complex. St. Mary's (38-8, 28-5 HC) would score two runs in the second inning as Ivan Sigala brought in a fellow Rattler off of a single and as Billy Richard reached on a fielder's choice bringing in Sigala.
St. Edward's (29-11, 21-8 HC) would score its only run of the game in the fourth, taking the score to 2-1 as Kyle Harris (Layton, Utah/Clarendon JC) got on after being hit by the pitch. K. Harris then stole second and would be brought home off of a single up the middle from Marshall Burford (Austin, Texas/Temple JC). St. Mary's would follow with two runs in the fourth, another from a hit by Sigala and the second off of a single from Mario Maldonado brining in Sigala to score. With the score 4-1, St. Mary's would collect a fifth run in the seventh and two more in the eighth.
The game would end in favor of the Rattlers, 7-1, giving the Rattlers the series after both teams split the doubleheader on Saturday. That victory mathematically eliminates the Hilltoppers from winning the Heartland Conference regular season title.
St. Edward's will be back in action Tuesday as travel to take on Northwood for a single game at 3:00 p.m. in Cedar Hill, Texas.
