Box Score CEDAR HILL, Texas – The St. Edward's baseball team got off to an early start giving them the momentum to take the win over Northwood Tuesday afternoon, 11-7. St. Edward's (30-11) scored four runs in the first inning. Kyle Harris (Layton, Utah/Clarendon JC) was the first to get on as he singled to right field.
Adam Shank (Sugar Land, Texas/San Jacinto JC) followed with a single to left field and Wes Koenig (Austin, Texas/Hill JC) would follow up with a double deep into right filed bringing in both runners. Marshall Burford (Austin, Texas/Temple JC) singled to the infield advancing Koenig to third.
Colin Elmore (Dallas, Texas/Richland College) was then hit by the pitch loading the bases for the Hilltoppers. Rylan Patel (Colleyville, Texas/Colleyville Heritage HS) would drive in the next two runs off of a single to left field. The Hilltoppers would score another run in the second as Shank collected an RBI, hitting a single, giving Taylor Johnson (Dripping Springs, Texas/Dripping Springs HS) time to come home, taking the score to 5-0.
Northwood (23-20-1) would get on the board in the second, securing two runs as Elvin Rodriguez hit a home run over the left field fence bringing in a fellow Knight. With the score now 5-2, St. Edward's worked hard to keep its lead in the top of the third and would secure two runs. T. Johnson brought in Patel as he singled up the middle. K. Harris then singled to center giving time for AJ Hermanson (Georgetown, Texas/Georgetown HS) to score. Making the score, 7-2.
St. Edward's was on a roll and would score another run in the fourth as Koenig singled to right and advanced to second on a passed ball by the Knights. Burford was walked and Patel would single through the left side giving Koenig time to score. In the top of the sixth, St. Edward's would do it again as Koenig would hit a home run over the right field fence bringing in Shank, extending their lead to 10-2. Northwood would not back down and would collect three runs in the bottom of the sixth and one in the seventh, as they attempted to close in on the Hilltoppers who lead 10-6.
St. Edward's would collect its last run in the eighth as Burford was walked. Will McCaleb (Houston, Texas/Blinn JC) followed with a single to right advancing Burford to third. Burford would then score on a passed ball by the Knights catcher. Northwood would secure one more run in the eighth but the game would end 11-7 in favor of the Hilltoppers. Leader for Northwood was Rodriguez who had two hits, a homerun and four RBI. Leaders for St. Edward's included Koenig who secured three hits, one home run and four RBI. Patel would collect two hits and three RBI.
St. Edward's will be back in action this weekend as they host Panhandle State at Lucian-Hamilton Field. Friday's double header will begin at 1:00 p.m. and Saturday's single game will kick off at 1:00 p.m.
