How it Happened
-Neither team registered a hit until the third inning. St. Edward's had three hits in the inning, but could not bring in a run. With two outs and three runners on,
MARISA BOGART lined out to center field.
-In a scoreless game entering the fourth inning, Incarnate Word's offense got rolling. First, Taylor Johnson doubled to left field. Johnson was brought home on a double by Ashley Freeman. Freeman advanced to third on a wild pitch. Freeman was brought home on a single by Shelby Waltrip to make it, 2-0.
-The fifth inning began with a bang for the Hilltoppers when
ALLY VALDEZ homered to left field, however, St. Edward's left two runners on base to end the inning.
-Incarnate Word had a solo home run in the 6
th and 7
th inning to stretch the lead to 4-1. Malanie Pedilla homered to right field in the sixth. Whitney Waltrip homered to left field in the seventh.
-Down by three runs in the bottom of the seventh, St. Edward's nearly forced extra innings. Valdez homered to right center for her second of the game.
LAUREN BRODE came in as a pinch hitter and homered to bring the Hilltoppers within one run. The comeback hopes ended when
FAITH ROBERTS grounded out to second base to end the threat.
Beyond the Box Score
-St. Edward's had only hit one home run on the season before hitting three today. All of the Hilltoppers' runs came off solo home runs.

SARAH DEBROW had seven strikeouts in a losing effort. She has struck out 16 batters in her last two appearances.

How It Happened
-Incarnate Word struck first in the first inning. Johnson first got on base due to being hit by a pitch. She advanced to second on a wild pitch and then to third off a ground out by Freeman. Johnson was brought home off a sacrifice fly by Padilla.
-Brode put the Hilltoppers on the board in the second inning when she homered to left center.
-Incarnate Word would add another run in the fourth inning. Kim Hanson scored off a single down the left field line by Courtney McCoy.
-In the seventh inning, Brode homered again to tie up the score. The Hilltoppers looked to have a chance to win in regulation when
MARISSA THOME's double to left center sent Kylie Herman to third. Herman attempted to round the bases but was thrown out at home for the third out.
-In the eighth inning, Incarnate Word put up a run when Hanson homered to left center. The Hilltoppers needed a run to match, but couldn't get a player on base in the bottom of the inning.

-It was an impressive day for
LAUREN BRODE. She went long three times in all.
Her two homers in game two accounted for all of St. Edward's runs.
