How it Happened
-The first inning was indicative of the kind of performance St. Edward's would have. Defensively, pitcher
SARAH DEBROW struck out two of the first three batters she faced. Offensively, the Hilltoppers put up two runs.
MARISSA THOME was brought home off a single by
ALLY VALDEZ.
LAUREN BRODE was sent home after
FAITH ROBERTS was hit by pitch and
KENDALL LUCAS was walked.
-
KACI OLSON homered to right center in the second inning to make it 3-0.
-The Hilltoppers made it 4-0 after the third inning. Valdez doubled to left center and was brought home by Lucas' single through the left side.
-St. Edward's added two more runs in the fifth inning. Brode singled to right field and was replaced by pinch runner
SAMANTHA GILMORE. Valdez reached on a fielding error by the second baseman. Gilmore and Valdez were brought home off Bozon's single down the right field line.
-The Hilltoppers made it 7-0 after the sixth inning. A single by Valdez through the left side brought in Olson. An opportunity to add another run was created off Lucas' single up the middle, but Valdez was tagged out at home on a throw from center field.
Beyond the Box Score
-Debrow held a no hitter through 4.2 innings. Her only allowed hit came off a double by Taylor Fitzgerald. Debrow had nine strikeouts and improves to 9-7 on the year.
-Three separate Hilltoppers accounted for two RBIs each: Valdez, Lucas, and Bozon.
-Brode and Valdez each had three hits. Valdez' team-leading 30 hits is one better than Olson's 29.
-Olson's home run was not only her first home run as a Hilltopper. It was her first at any point in her softball career.
