How It Happened
-Hilltopper starting pitcher
CODY ELLERBEE was impressive in his first four innings of work, allowing just two hits. Panhandle State counterpart Corey Mingin was just as good, allowing just one hit through the first four frames.
-In the fifth inning, St. Edward's finally got something going.
DYLAN WATTS led of the inning with a single. After a fly out,
NATE BOBROWSKI singled to put another runner on. A ground out moved both runners up 90 feet.
BEAU ROGERS came through with the big two-out hit driving in both runners.
-The Hilltoppers would put up runs in the next three innings to break out to a 6-2 lead.
-Ellerbee finally gave way to the bullpen after allowing just two runs on six hits in 6.2 innings of work.
-
MATT DAVIS came on in relief for the final 2.1 innings and was fantastic, giving up just one hit and striking out four to pick up his first career save.
Beyond the Box Score
-St. Edward's gets its first sweep of the season and they have won five of seven series.
-After sweeping the series, St. Edward's now holds a 62-4 all-time series advantage over Panhandle State. They have also won seven-straight games in the series. During the seven games, the Hilltoppers have outscored the Aggies, 41-10.
