Hilltoppers sweep the “Dust”devils and remain one game out of first

How it happened (Game 1)
-The Hilltoppers struck first taking a quick 2-0 lead in the first inning. MARISSA THOME and KACI OLSON both crossed home plate for the scores.
-TAMU-International responded in the fourth inning with a run to cut the deficit to 2-1. Cassandra Deleon hit a solo home run to left field.
-The bats for St. Edward's came alive during the fifth inning as the Hilltoppers recorded four hits. They also scored two runs to increase their lead, 4-1. Cydney Irvin scored after putting herself in scoring position via a single and stolen base.
-Thome scored her second run of the game. She got on base by way of a single and advanced to scoring position on error committed by the third baseman.
-The Dustdevils hit their second solo homerun of the game in the seventh inning, but it wasn't enough as the Hilltoppers took game one of the doubleheader, 4-2.
 
How it happened (Game 2)
-The Hilltoppers again drew first blood to start the final game of the conference series. KACI OLSON scored her second run of the afternoon. She singled up the middle and advanced to scoring position on a throwing error. LAUREN BRODE provided the sacrifice fly for the score.
-MARISSA THOME scored her third run of the day to give St. Edward's a 2-0 lead. Thome provided another single and was able to score with the help of her teammates who allowed her to move into scoring position.
-LAURA ALVARADO added another run for St. Edward's. She scored after she was asked to pinch run for senior teammate BRIANNA BOZON.
-The Hilltoppers put the game away with four runs in the sixth inning.  MARISSA THOME, MEMRIE WATERS, Kylie Herman, and LAUREN BRODE provided the insurance runs for St. Edward's as they increased its lead 7-1.
-Sara Debrow struck out the side during the final inning and improved to 16-7 as the Hilltoppers completed the sweep over TAMU-International.
 
Beyond the Box Score
-ALLY VALDEZ leads the nation with 38 walks; four of those came on Saturday against the Dustdevils.
-Sara Debrow is currently in second place in the Heartland Conference with 16 wins on the season.
-MARISSA THOME provided the offensive spark against the Dustdevils. She connected on six hits, which led the Hilltoppers this weekend as well as scoring five runs.
