How It Happened
-Incarnate Word starting pitcher Geno Encina kept the Hilltopper offense in check for the first three innings. The only problem was, Hilltopper starting pitcher KYLE SEITHEL kept the Cardinals off balance all afternoon.
-In the fourth inning, St. Edward's finally broke through. RANSOM LALONDE and CJ MANNING opened the inning with back-to-back singles. A double by MARSHALL BURFORD scored one run and a sacrifice fly by DYLAN WATTS plated the other for a 2-0 Hilltopper lead.
-With the bases loaded and one out in the fifth inning, LaLonde ripped a pitch to the gap in left field. Two runs scored and a third run also came in when the Cardinal centerfielder bobbled the ball. LaLonde would also score on a sac fly from Manning a batter later.
-Leading 6-0 in the bottom of the sixth inning, St. Edward's put the game away with a six spot on the board. RYAN DOLEZAL and CUTTER RUNTE both drove in a run. LaLonde came up huge once again, driving in two with a double. Runte would then score on a balk and LaLonde would score on another sacrifice fly by Manning to make it 12-2.
-Seithel sent the Cardinals down in order in the seventh for the complete-game victory.
 
Beyond the Box Score
-After giving up five runs off of 10 hits in his last outing at Incarnate Word, Seithel rebounded and allowed just two runs in three hits, while striking out five. He now has the best strikeout-to-walk ratio on the team at 4.8 (24-to-5).
-In LaLonde's last six games, the junior shortstop has hit .542 (13-24) and has 11 runs scored with 10 RBI.
