How It Happened
-St. Edward's started hot out of the gate, putting up three runs in the first two innings of action. TAYLOR JOHNSON and CUTTER RUNTE both led off the first inning with singles. Johnson would come around to score on a double play groundout for a 1-0 lead. In the second inning, RYAN DOLEZAL had a RBI-groundout, while Johnson singled in a run for a 3-0 lead.
-Incarnate Word would get single runs back in the second and fourth innings to cut the lead to 3-2.
-In the top of the fifth, Runte led off with a single. After a two-out single by NATE BOBROWSKI, MARSHALL BURFORD provided the big blow with his fifth home run of the season. That would push the Hilltopper lead to 6-2.
-The Cardinals would chip away at the lead, scoring three runs in the sixth inning and tying the game in the bottom of the eighth.
-In the top of the ninth inning, the Hilltoppers would rally once again. With two outs and runners on second and third base, Burford stepped to the plate. The senior ripped a 0-1 pitch to left field to plate pinch runner AJ HERMANSON.
-MATT DAVIS closed things down in the ninth inning as he picked up his fifth win of the year out of the bullpen.
 
Beyond the Box Score
-The four hits by Runte were a career high for the outfielder.
-BRAD NASIS came on in a relief, which was his first action in almost two months. The southpaw struck out five batters in 1.2 innings of work.
-NATE BOBROWSKI extended his hitting streak to five games tonight. During the streak, Bobrowski has a .474 (9-19) average with five runs scored and seven RBI.
