Box Score Video Recap

The Basics

-Score: St. Edward's 5, Angelo State 3
-Records: St. Edward's 32-21: Angelo State 36-17
-Location: Canyon, Texas (Schaeffer Park)

How It Happened
-St. Edward's got on the board first, pushing across a run in the third inning. Briana Bozon led off the inning with a single to left field. After two groundouts put Bozon at third, senior MARISSA THOME came up huge for the Hilltoppers with a RBI-single.
-Angelo State responded with a run in the top of the fourth. With two outs and a runner on second, Bozon made an errant throw to first base to allow the RamBelles to knot the score.
-The Hilltoppers got the lead back in the bottom of the inning, and Bozon was at the heart of the action again. The senior immediately atoned for her error as she launched a single to left field to score ALLY VALDEZ from third and give St. Edward's a 2-1 lead.
-The RamBelles got back in the game in the top of the sixth inning when Rachel Moore singled home two runs to give the lead back to Angelo State, 3-2.
-St. Edward's showed its resiliency in the bottom of the sixth inning. LAUREN BRODE led off the inning with a single to left field. With Head Coach Lindsay Gardner electing to let her hitters swing away instead of sacrificing the runner into scoring position, Valdez ripped a single to shortstop to put runners at first and second. A wild pitch by RamBelle starting pitcher Mary Kate McKay allowed each runner to move up a base and catcher Kacey Easley's throw got past third base. Brode quickly hustled home and slid under the tag of Easley to tie the score. FAITH ROBERTS singled to shortstop. After a fielder's choice by MARISA BOGART placed her at first in place of Roberts, Bozon stepped to the plate once again. Bozon laced McKay's first pitch to the gap in left field to scored both Valdez and Bogart to give St. Edward's a 5-3 lead.
-In the top of the seventh, Hilltopper starting pitcher SARAH DEBROW looked to finish off her second victory in as many days. With runners at first and second and two outs, Debrow would face Easley, the leading hitter for Angelo State. Easley lined a pitch down the third base line, but Bozon was there to spear it and send St. Edward's to the championship game on Sunday.

Beyond the Box Score
-Debrow got the victory, allowing three unearned runs on six hits, while walking two and striking out nine in her complete victory. She improves to 22-10. Her nine strikeouts give her 225 for the season. She is just 11 strikeouts behind Diana Cezeaux who owns the record for single season strikeouts with 236 in 2008.
