Game 1
How It Happened
-Both starting pitchers were outstanding through the first four innings of play, limiting the opposition to just one hit each.
-In the fifth inning, St. Edward's finally broke through.
DYLAN WATTS led off the inning with a hit by pitch. He advanced to second on the bunt single by Pirozzolo. With one out,
TAYLOR JOHNSON smoked a ball over the TAMIU rightfielder to plate two runs with a triple.
-Easterling took it from there, sitting the Dustdevils down in order over the final two innings.
Game 2
How It Happened
-The second game started just like the first with both teams coming up empty on the scoreboard early.
-In the fourth inning, TAMU-International put one on the board when Alex McKeon drove home a run with a two-out double.
-St. Edward's would answer in the seventh inning when Watts singled off of the pitcher's cleat to score
CJ MANNING who had reached base on a leadoff single.
-The Dustdevils responded with a run in the top of the eighth inning when Alvaro Rondon doubled home a run to make it 2-1.
-TAMU-International seemed to have the game in hand until St. Edward's rallied in the bottom of the ninth. With two outs, pinch hitter
WILL MCCALEB reached on an infield single.
MARSHALL BURFORD laced a two-strike double to the wall in left field to score McCaleb and knot the score, 2-2.
-Both teams did not score in the 10
th inning, but in the top of the 11
th inning, the Dustdevils scored a run off of a wild pitch.
-St. Edward's was unable to respond as they went down in order to end the game.
Beyond the Box Score
-The Hilltoppers stole three bases in the first game, which made four-straight games that they have stolen at least one base. St. Edward's did not swipe a base in game two that ended the streak, but they had stolen 12 bases in the last five games.
-Easterling picked up win number 10 on the season. He matches
BRAD NASIS' total from last season. The school record for pitching victories in a season is 12, set by Patrick Colgan during the 2007 season.
-The participants for the Heartland Conference Tournament have been set. St. Mary's is the number one seed and will host the tournament. Texas A&M-International is locked in at the number four seed and will take on the Rattlers in the first round. Arkansas-Fort Smith and St. Edward's are tied for the two seed and will have to wait until Saturday's games to see who will take the seed. St. Edward's owns the tiebreaker over the Lions. The two teams will face off in the other first round matchup. All games will take place at the University of the Incarnate Word in San Antonio.
