AUSTIN, TEXAS – The St. Edward's women's tennis team had a tall task in order on Saturday afternoon as it took on NCAA Division I Stephen F. Austin at the Strohmeyer Varsity Courts. The Lumberjacks defeated the Hilltoppers, 5-2.
 
St. Edward's had a 6-3 lead at the number one doubles position with BROOKE HUGHES and Sasha Khadzyhan, but since they were playing by DI rules, the match was stopped because Stephen F. Austin had already clinched the doubles point with victories at the number one and two positions.
 
In singles play, the Hilltoppers picked up two victories, as Hughes took down Denise Maxl in a third-set super tiebreaker. BREANNE HESSELTINE also picked up a point for St. Edward's, getting a default win at the number six position.
 
"We played really well and were very competitive on every court today with a tough DI program," head coach Kendall Brooks said. "We had chances on several courts, and were up on line 1 doubles. Brooke played smart, physical tennis and got a big win today."
 
The Hilltoppers will be back in action Tuesday when they travel to take on Tyler Junior College. First-serve is set for 2 p.m. in Waco, Texas.
