Hilltoppers fall to Northeastern State, 8-1

Rafaela Haegele
AUSTIN, Texas – The St. Edward's Women's Tennis team fell to Northeastern State, 8-1, Sunday morning at the Strohmeyer Varsity Courts.

St. Edward's (16-9, 4-5 HC) got a victory at the number one position. Sasha Khadzyhan and RAFAELA HAEGELE teamed to take down the Riverhawks' first team, 8-4. The Hilltoppers would drop the other two doubles matches as they headed to singles play down 2-1.

In singles play, St. Edward's could not scratch out a victory. The Riverhawks won all six singles matches. Haegele had the best chance to gain a point as she took her opponent to a third set and narrowly lost, 6-4, 3-6, 7-5.

"We played really well against a solid team," head coach Kendall Brooks said. "I was proud of the way we fought and we had some opportunities we weren't able to capitalize on. There were lots of positives from today's match."

The Hilltoppers will be back in action Wednesday when they host Cameron. First-serve is set for 12:00 p.m. Check the Hilltopper Athletic Website for information on the game.
