AUSTIN, Texas – The 24th-ranked St. Edward's men's tennis team fell to #16 Cameron, 8-1 on Wednesday afternoon at the South Austin Tennis Center.

St. Edward's (6-6) started doubles play with a quick victory at the number three spot as ADRIAN GARZA and MAXIMO AGOGLIA teamed up to take down Cameron's Joao Fazendiero and Dean Weigelt, 8-5. At the number one and two spots, the Hilltoppers dropped two close matches , both at 9-7.

The heartbreak in doubles seemed to carry over into singles play as the Aggies took first sets in five of the six matches. PATRICK CLYNES won the first set in a tiebreaker over #30 Dennis Merdan, 7-6 for the only first-set win. In all five of the matches where the first set was dropped, St. Edward's fought hard and lost either, 6-4 or 7-5 in the second set. In six singles, Garza won his second set to force a super tiebreaker against Weigelt. Cameron would take the point with a 10-8 win in that tiebreaker.

At the number one spot, Clynes dropped the second set and the two No. 1s would battle in a full third set. With Clynes cramping up on just about every point, the match would go to a tiebreaker. Merdan would eventually outlast Clynes, 7-5 in the tiebreaker to give the Aggies an 8-2 team victory.

Cameron came into the match ranked first in the South Central Region. The Hilltoppers were in the third spot. These two teams met in last year's regional tournament won by the Aggies.

St. Edward's will be back in action Friday when they travel to take on Heartland Conference rival McMurry. First-serve is set for 2 p.m. in Abilene, Texas.
