Biggs downs NCAA Division I opponent

WACO, Texas – St. Edward's junior SUMMER BIGGS continues to impress on the tennis courts in Central Texas as of late. The junior defeated Karen Avila, a NCAA Division I player from Baylor, 6-0, 6-0, Thursday morning at the Hurd Tennis Center. That did prove to be the only victory for the Hilltoppers as they fell to 16th-ranked Baylor, 4-1.
 
St. Edward's (7-7) opened the match in doubles play where they dropped all three matches to Baylor. The Bears would win the doubles point.
 
In singles play, the Hilltoppers opened with losses at the number six and three positions to fall behind, 3-0. Biggs, playing at the number five spot, absolutely dominated Avila, 6-0, 6-0. Biggs has now won two-straight matches and seven of her last 10. The Hilltoppers would lose the match as they dropped a decision at the number one spot for the final 4-1 margin.
 
"I was really happy with how we represented ourselves today," head coach Kendall Brooks said. "It was a great experience, and we are looking to build on it as we continue to play the high level of tennis we are playing to finish out the rest of the regular season."
 
St. Edward's will be back in action Friday, April 4th when they travel to Oklahoma City, Okla., for a neutral-site matchup with Heartland Conference rival Newman. First-serve is set for 2 p.m. Check the Hilltopper Athletic Website for results.
