AUSTIN, Texas – The St. Edward's women's tennis team dropped a 6-3 decision to long-time rival #19 St. Mary's Saturday afternoon at the Strohmeyer Varsity Courts.
 
In doubles play, St. Edward's was only able to get one victory out of the three matches. The 14^th-ranked team of BROOKE HUGHES and SASHA KHADZHYAN easily defeated the St. Mary's team of Mariana Rong and Christina Lopez, 8-4, at the number one spot.
 
Down 2-1, heading into singles play, the Hilltoppers tried to get back into the match. Khadzhyan finished the day 2-0, as she also won her singles match at the number two spot over Lopez, 7-6, 6-4. SUMMER BIGGS was also impressive at the number five spot, as she took down Adriana Saldana in straight sets, 6-0, 7-5. The rest of the singles matches did not go according to plan as St. Edward's dropped four matches and the team match, 6-3.
 
The day was also senior day on the Hilltop as FLORENCE BOINON and BREANNE HESSELTINE were celebrated before the match. Both will be graduating this May.
 
St. Edward's will be back in action Sunday when they host Texas A&M-Kingsville. First-serve is set for 10 a.m. at the Strohmeyer Varsity Courts. Check the Hilltopper Athletic Website for results.
