AUSTIN, Texas – The 26^th-ranked St. Edward's men's tennis team fell to NCAA Division I Abilene Christian, 6-1, Thursday afternoon at the Strohmeyer Varsity Courts.
 
Facing its longtime rival, St. Edward's (12-7) came into the match on a hot streak, winning 11 of its last 12 matches. In doubles action, the Hilltoppers won at the number one spot in a tiebreaker, 8-7. FELIX BAKE and PEDRO BRONSTRUP teamed up for the win over Abilene Christian's Borja Cortes and Guilherme Gesser. The Wildcats would take wins at the number two and three spots. Playing by Division I rules, Abilene Christian would take the doubles point by taking two of the three matches.
 
In singles play, the Wildcats got straight-set victories at the number one, five and six spots to take a 4-0 lead. The other three matches had the Hilltoppers taking the first set. Both ALEXANDRE BUENO and Bronstrup were hard-luck losers as they fell in three sets to the Wildcats. MAXIMO AGOGLIA was able to rebound from a second-set loss to win in three sets, 6-4, 2-6, 6-3 over Gesser at the number three spot for the final 6-1 margin.
 
St. Edward's will be back in action Friday when they face Newman in the semifinals of the Heartland Conference Tournament. First serve is set for 2 p.m. at St. Mary's University. St. Edward's is the top seed in the tournament and Newman is the fourth seed. Live video and stats will be available on the Rattler Athletic Website.
