Pitching leads to series sweep of Panhandle State

Kyle Seithel
Box Score GOODWELL, Okla. – The #9 St. Edward's baseball team used dominant pitching to keep its lead in the Heartland Conference standings to two games following a 2-0 win over Panhandle State, Saturday afternoon at Aggie Field. The Hilltoppers have a two-game lead with six conference games to play.

St. Edward's (31-11, 18-6 HC) received three brilliant pitching performances from CAM HATCH, KYLE SEITHEL and GRAYSON PRATT, as the trio combined for a four-hit shutout.

Hatch went the first four innings and only allowed three hits while walking one and striking out two. Seithel (2-2) picked up the victory in relief, throwing four innings of hitless baseball, while walking two and striking out four. Pratt picked up his second save of the season as he worked the ninth inning. The Hilltopper pitching staff held Panhandle State (11-31, 2-21 HC) hitless from the fourth through the eighth innings.

On the offensive side, the Hilltoppers picked up a run in the fourth inning when RANSOM LALONDE reached on a hit-by-pitch to lead off the inning. He moved to second on a sacrifice bunt from DYLAN WATTS and scored on a single down the left field line by KEVIN MAYO.

St. Edward's added an insurance run in the eighth inning. WES KOENIG led off the inning with a single. After AJ HERMANSON came on to pinch run, he would move to second on an Aggie error. Watts came through with the RBI-single to make it 2-0.

St. Edward's will be back in action Tuesday for a key regional matchup as it hosts Texas A&M-Kingsville. First-pitch is set for 2:30 p.m. at Lucian-Hamilton Field. Live video and stats will be available on the Hilltopper Athletic Website. The Hilltoppers defeated the Javelinas 7-1 on March 18th in Kingsville.
