Box Score VICTORIA, Texas – Less than 24 hours after taking the first two games of their four game series, the #19 St. Edward's Baseball team put the finishing touches on the third game of the series to secure a sweep of Houston-Victoria. The second game of the doubleheader was cancelled due to rain.
St. Edward's (11-6) starter
CAMERON STANTON was extremely efficient through his six innings of work. He gave up just a single hit to the Jaguars and finished the day with five strikeouts. Stanton has not allowed a run in his last 13.2 innings of work and moved his record to 2-0 on the season after Saturday's game.
The Hilltoppers produced a run in the second inning as
JONATHON ARROWOOD walked and was bunted over to second base via
KEVIN MAYO's sacrifice.
CUTTER RUNTE would rip a single to bring Arrowood to third and
DYLAN WATTS' sacrifice fly to centerfield would help bring him home to give the Hilltoppers a 1-0 lead.
St. Edward's would scratch its last run of the game across in the fifth inning as
NATE TURNER smoked a double to deep left field to start the inning. A.J. Hermanson's dribbler to shortstop ended in an out, but it was enough to move Turner to third so that
GABLE WHITACRE could single him home to extend the lead to 2-0.
CAM HATCH would come into the pitch the seventh and final inning. After walking the first batter, Hatch induced a fielder's choice, strikeout and another strikeout to secure his third save of the season and a 2-0 victory for the Hilltoppers.
St. Edwards will travel back to the Austin and attempt to rest up before they take on Oklahoma Christian in its Heartland Conference opener. First pitch of the doubleheader this Friday is set for 12:30 pm. Live video and stats will be available on the Hilltopper Athletic Website.
