AUSTIN, Texas- The St. Edward's Softball team defeated Oklahoma Panhandle State, 8-0, Friday afternoon at Diane Daniels Field in the opener of their three-game series.
Â
St. Edwards (16-8, 4-0 HC) made quick work of Panhandle State (6-18, 0-4 HC). The Hilltoppers kicked off the scoring in the first inning with two runs from a bunt from
CAITIE CARNEY. Carney and
KACI OLSON both came around to score when the Aggies failed to cover home plate after a sacrifice bunt.
Â
The Aggies could not stop the home team's offense as
MARISA BOGART,
EMILY MAYFIELD and
CYDNEY ERVIN came home in the second inning to raise the tally 5-0. The third inning saw more runs on the board as
MORGAN DUFOUR and
LAURA ALVARADO scored unearned runs. Dufour would get her second run on the day in the fifth inning off a wild pitch. That run won the game for the Hilltoppers due to the run-rule.
Â
The visitors had no answer for Hilltopper pitcher
SARAH DEBROW. She tallied 10 strikeouts in the game, allowing one hits in her five-inning shutout. Debrow now stands at a 10-2 on the season.
Â
The Hilltoppers are back in action Saturday in a doubleheader against Panhandle State. First pitch is set for noon. Live coverage will be available on the Hilltopper Athletic Website.Â
