MIAMI, Fla. – The 33
rd-ranked St. Edward's Women's Tennis team dropped a 9-0 decision to #2 Barry Thursday afternoon at the Buccaneer Tennis Center.
St. Edward's (7-4) fell behind 3-0 after doubles as Barry (8-1) took all three matches.
In singles play, the Buccaneers took matches at the number one through five spots in straight sets. The Hilltoppers'
VANESSA CAMARA hung tough with Jasi Witherspoon at the number six positions before falling in a first-set tiebreaker, 7-6. Witherspoon would take the second set to give the home team a 9-0 team victory.
"Today was a tough day on the courts for us," head coach Kendall Brooks said. "Barry is a very good team, and the defending national champions are definitely a level up from where we are currently. I thought we represented ourselves and St. Edward's well, and left it all out on the court. Overall, while the outcomes of this roadtrip might not have been wins, I think we got better and it can only help us moving forward with the most important part of our season coming up."
The Hilltoppers will be back in action Thursday when they travel to take on long-time rival St. Mary's in their annual "Battle of the Saints" matchup. First serve is set for 3 p.m. Live stats will be available on the Rattler Athletic Website.
