FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla. – The 33
rd-ranked St. Edward's Women's Tennis team dropped its second-straight match Wednesday afternoon as it fell to #10 Nova Southeastern, 7-2, at the NSU Tennis Center.
St. Edward's (7-3) dug itself an early hole, dropping all three doubles matches. This was the complete opposite of its match Tuesday against Palm Beach Atlantic where the Hilltoppers won all three doubles matches.
Looking to improve its singles play from a day earlier, St. Edward's got a straight-set victory from
FRANCESCA CHAHER at the number four spot as she defeated Linda Kornienko, 6-4, 6-3.
VANESSA CAMARA, playing at the number six position, dropped her first set against Iryna Serdyuk, but rallied to win in the third set, super-set tiebreaker, 3-6, 6-2, 13-11.
IVANA ZECEVIC dropped her first set at number three singles, but rallied to win the second set before falling in the super-set tiebreaker, 6-3, 2-6, 10-1. The Sharks would take the other three singles matches for the 7-2 final score.
"Overall, I am really pleased at our performance today," head coach Kendall Brooks said. "This was a really tough team who is undefeated and will be ranked in the top-five in the next national ranking. We competed very hard and had some chances in doubles play. I think that we proved to ourselves that we could play with anyone if we let ourselves. I am looking forward to seeing what we can do tomorrow against another good team in Barry."
The Hilltoppers will close its Florida Spring Break trip with a matchup against #2 Barry. First-serve is set for 2 p.m. Live stats will be available on the Buccaneer Athletic Website.
