AUSTIN, Texas - The St. Edward's softball team split a doubleheader with Texas A&M-International Saturday afternoon at Diane Daniels Field. The weekend series went to Texas A&M-International, 2-1.

Game 1In another close matchup, Texas A&M-International (20-16, 13-2 HC) got the better of St. Edward's (18-14, 6-6 HC), 2-1. The Hilltoppers struck first in the bottom of the first as
ALEX MAYFIELD scored off a squeeze bunt from
CAITIE CARNEY. The visitors answered with two runs in the second.

A pitchers duel ensued as
KATELYN KLUG fought to keep the Falcons at two runs and Sarah Johnson of TAMU-International battled to maintain the lead. The closest the Hilltoppers came to tying or taking the lead was in the sixth inning when
MORGAN DUFOUR singled down the left field line. She would be left on base however as Whitten flied out to end the inning.

ALEX MAYFIELD led the Hilltoppers with two hits.

Game 2St. Edward's managed to avoid the sweep by putting on an offensive show in the final game of the series and holding the Dustdevils to zero runs. The action started in the bottom of the second inning.
CYDNEY ERVIN and
BREAH WHITTEN both put runs on the board.
AUBREY RUIZ added on another in the third off a sacrifice fly out by
LAURA ALVARADO.

Ervin opened the fourth inning with a homer, her first on the season.
MARISA BOGART followed with a homer of her own in the fifth inning. Ervin got her third run on the day as Whitten singled through the ride side, bringing the tally to 6-0. The Hilltoppers kept any rally efforts from the visitors at bay throughout the rest of the innings.

SARAH DEBROW brings her record to 11-6. She had seven strikeouts in the game.
