SAN ANTONIO, Texas – The 14
th-ranked St. Edward's Baseball team defeated No. 20 St. Mary's, 6-2, in the final game of their three-game series this afternoon at V.J. Keefe Stadium.
The Hilltoppers jumped on the Rattlers early, as
A.J. HERMANSON and
J.D. ARROWOOD each tallied an RBI in the top of the first inning.
St. Edward's (28-10, 14-4 HC) gave the ball to undefeated
CAMERON STANTON to try and salvage the last game of the series for the Hilltoppers. Stanton would throw six dominant innings, allowing just two earned runs over six innings of play.
Hermanson would pick up another RBI in the third inning scoring teammate
CUTTER RUNTE.
GABLE WHITACRE would follow with an RBI-bunt later in the inning, making the score 4-1 in favor of the Hilltoppers. St. Edward's would expand its lead to four runs in the fifth inning on a wild pitch.
St. Mary's (28-8, 15-3 HC) would inch a little closer in the bottom of the fifth inning, scoring one Rattler baserunner and pushing the score, 5-2.
St. Edward's would call on relief pitcher
ERIC HESTER to continue the dominance of Stanton and he would not disappoint. Hester threw three scoreless innings, allowing just one hit, as the Hilltoppers cruised to a 6-2 victory, taking the final game of this Battle of the Saints matchup.
