COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. – St. Edward's University Volleyball suffered its first road loss of 2015, falling 3-0 to the University of Colorado at Colorado Springs on Thursday. The loss moves the Toppers to 3-3 on the season.
KATIE MARTIN led the Hilltopper attack for the fourth time this season with eight kills while
JACLYN BILLIE dished out double-digit assists again with 11.
"They are the best team we have played this year," said head coach Mary DeJute. "It's a learning process and we are taking small steps. Once we get healthy they will be giant steps. I'm proud of how these players keep fighting even when they are down. We need to stay together and be committed to each other and the process."
In the opening set UCCS took an early 4-0 lead that grew to 24-13, yet the Hilltoppers would not go quietly as a service ace from
JULIA HARTLEY sparked a 5-0 St. Edward's run. However, the visitors would come up short, falling 25-18.
St. Edward's continued to fight in sets two and three, but an effective Colorado Springs attack pushed the Mountain Lions past the Hilltoppers, 25-19 and 25-16.
The Steel and Silver Volleyball Classic resumes on Friday as St. Edward's travels to Pueblo, Colorado to face Eastern New Mexico at 11:30 a.m. (MST) and the host ThunderWolves at 7 p.m. (MST). Fans can find live stat and video links at GoHilltoppers.com.
