KINGSVILLE, Texas – St. Edward's women's tennis used five singles wins Saturday to grind out a 7-2 win over Texas A&M-Kingsville at the Javelina Tennis Courts.
 
PAOLA CARPIO clinched the victory with her win on line three in singles. MARISSA WILLIAMS went 2-0 on the day with wins at No. 3 doubles and No. 5 singles.
 
St. Edward's (5-2) is ranked fourth in the South Central region. Texas A&M-Kingsville (4-3) is ranked seventh in the region.
 
HOW IT HAPPENED

• ELISA GUILLEN and Williams set the tone in doubles with a dominant 8-0 win, giving St. Edward's a 1-0 lead.
• A split on lines one and two sent the Hilltoppers into singles action with a 2-1 advantage.
• The Javelinas quickly evened the score with a victory on line one in singles action.
• However, the Hilltoppers responded with five straight wins as Carpio clinched the victory with her 6-4, 7-6 (4) win at No. 3.

 
HILLTOPPER NOTES

• The Hilltoppers are 5-0 all time against the Javelinas.
• Williams is undefeated in singles action this spring with a record of 4-0.
• Head Coach Kendall Brooks has started regional play 1-0 for three straight seasons.
