COMMERCE, Texas – St. Edward's lost an early lead in game one Tuesday on its way to dropping both games of a doubleheader against Texas A&M-Commerce.
St. Edward's (6-12) took an early 3-1 lead in game one before Texas A&M-Commerce (12-5) scored six unanswered runs to win game one. In game two, the Lions scored two runs in the first inning and kept the Hilltopper offense off the scoreboard the rest of the way.
HOW IT HAPPENED (Game 1)
- TAMU-Commerce jumped out to an early 1-0 lead in the second inning.
- St. Edward's got on the board in the second inning with a three-run home run off the bat of sophomore KAYLA APPLEBY.
- The Lions responded with single runs in the third and fourth inning before putting the game away with a four-run outburst in the fifth inning.
- The Hilltoppers loaded the bases in the sixth inning but could only muster one run for the final tally.
HOW IT HAPPENED (Game 2)
- TAMU-Commerce jumped out to an early 2-0 lead in the first inning.
- St. Edward's put runners on base in the first three innings but came up empty each time.
- In the seventh inning, the Hilltoppers put two more runners on with two outs but a foul out ended the game.
HILLTOPPER NOTES
- Senior BREAH WHITTEN led the Hilltopper offense, going 3-for-5 at the plate for the day.
- Appleby and sophomore JINNY STRICKLIN each collected two hits.
- Senior ASHLEE REX (1-5) was the hard-luck loser in game two as she allowed two runs off of three hits in a complete-game effort.
- Texas A&M-Commerce leads the all-time series, 7-0.
