MIDLAND, Texas – St. Edward's women's tennis capped its trip to west Texas Saturday with a 9-0 sweep of Western New Mexico.
 
MARISSA WILLIAMS remained perfect in singles with a straight-set victory, improving to 6-0 on the spring. ANJALI SAMPATH won her second straight match at No. 1 singles in come-from-behind fashion.
 
St. Edward's (7-3) is 3-0 in South Central Regional play. Western New Mexico (2-8) is on an eight-match losing streak.
 
HOW IT HAPPENED

• Williams teamed up with ELISA GUILLEN in doubles to give St. Edward's a 1-0 lead with an 8-3 win on line three.
• The Hilltoppers completed their sweep of doubles to carry a 3-0 lead into singles play.
• Guillen won 6-0, 6-1 at No. 6 singles to put SEU within a point of clinching.
• Williams secured the win with her 6-1, 6-2 victory on line four.

 
HILLTOPPER NOTES

• St. Edward's is 3-0 all time against Western New Mexico.
• Williams has not lost a singles match since September 2016.
• The Hilltoppers are a combined 17-1 in their last two matches.
