AUSTIN, Texas – Senior LAUREN SLATTEN's one-hitter Monday led St. Edward's to an 8-0, shutout victory over Rogers State at Diane Daniels Field.
 
St. Edward's (9-15, 2-1 Heartland) wins the series over Rogers State (17-7, 1-2 Heartland) and is tied for second in the league after the first weekend of conference play.
 
HOW IT HAPPENED (St. Edward's 8, Rogers State 0)
W-Slatten (4-6), L-Rosewell (15-5)

• St. Edward's jumped on the Hillcats early, scoring three runs in the bottom of the first inning.
• Sophomore KAYLA APPLEBY drove in the first run on a squeeze bunt, followed by a RBI single from sophomore MEGAN HOFFMAN and a RBI-groundout by sophomore SHELBY JANDA.
• Slatten controlled the game throughout, not allowing a hit through the first five innings.
• The Hilltoppers put the game away in the bottom of the fourth, scoring four runs on five hits for a 7-0 advantage.
• Junior SAMI WILLIAMS ended the game in the sixth inning with a walkoff single to plate sophomore JINNY STRICKLIN with the winning run.

 
HILLTOPPER NOTES

• Williams and Appleby both picked up two RBI.
• Senior ALEX MAYFIELD led the Hilltoppers with two runs scored from the leadoff spot.
• Appleby has driven in five runs in her last three games.
• Hoffman has four doubles in the last three games and is second on the team with six on the season.
• St. Edward's is now tied with Rogers State in the all-time series, 6-6.
