AUSTIN, Texas – Sophomore
MEGAN HOFFMAN reached base six times Tuesday but it was not enough as St. Edward's softball dropped both ends of a doubleheader to Texas A&M-Commerce at Diane Daniels Field.
St. Edward's (9-17) gave up 12 unanswered runs in the final two innings of game one to fall 15-3. Texas A&M-Commerce (17-8) scored the eventual winning run in the top of the seventh inning of game two to complete the doubleheader sweep.
HOW IT HAPPENED (Game 1: TAMU-Commerce 15, St. Edward's 3)
W-Rima (4-1), L-Burdick (3-3)
- Through the first three innings of action, both teams traded blows.
- Tied, 3-3, TAMU-Commerce batted around and exploded for 11 runs in the fourth inning to put the game out of reach.
- The game ended by way of a run-rule.
HOW IT HAPPENED (Game 2: TAMU-Commerce 4, St. Edward's 3)
W-Rima (5-1), L-Rex (2-7)
- Twice, the Lions took a lead through the first four innings of action.
- St. Edward's answered both times with a run in the second and two more in the fourth inning.
- With the score tied in the seventh inning, TAMU-Commerce pushed across a run on a sacrifice fly.
- The Hilltoppers got a leadoff walk from sophomore KAYLA APPLEBY in the bottom of the seventh but a double play put an end to the threat and gave the game to the visitors.
HILLTOPPER NOTES
- Hoffman produced hits in both games to run her hitting streak to five games.
- Since coming back from injury, senior ALEX MAYFIELD has hits in four of her last five starts.
- St. Edward's has lost all nine times it has faced the Lions in the all-time series.

"I am happy that we were able to bounce back after game one and fight. However, to go along with that fight we need to be able to execute in order to win those games. I think our offense is starting to turn the corner. We are hitting the ball hard they are just right at people. Eventually, those hits have to fall."
