AUSTIN, Texas – A late rally by St. Edward's came up short Thursday as the Hilltoppers fell in extra innings to Texas Woman's, 4-2 at Diane Daniels Field.
St. Edward's (7-14) out-hit the Pioneers, 9-8. Texas Woman's (14-10) committed a pair of errors in the victory.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- Texas Woman's opened the scoring in the third inning with a run off of a Hilltopper error.
- St. Edward's answered with a run of its own in the bottom of the third inning on a RBI-single by senior BREAH WHITTEN.
- The Pioneers loaded the bases in the fifth inning and scored one run on a sacrifice fly.
- In the bottom of the sixth inning, freshman Kari Rodriguez singled through the left side to lead off the inning.
- Pinch runner ALEX MAYFIELD advanced to second on a sacrifice bunt, and tied the game on SHELBY JANDA's RBI-single.
- Texas Woman's scored two runs in the top of the eighth inning.
- The Hilltoppers put two runners on base in the bottom half, but the Pioneers escaped with the victory on a strikeout looking.
HILLTOPPER NOTES
- Whitten and Janda registered two hits and an RBI each.
- Senior LAUREN SLATTEN (2-6) suffered the loss, allowing four runs (one earned) on eight hits, while walking three and striking out five.
- Texas Woman's leads the all-time series, 20-15.
