AUSTIN, Texas – The pitching staff for St. Edward's baseball combined to throw its third-straight shutout in the Hilltoppers 7-0 win Saturday over Panhandle State on Senior Day.
BRANDON BOONE (6-2) made the start and earned the victory as he struck out seven batters in five innings allowing just two hits.
AUSTIN WEAVER,
BEN MORALEZ,
JOSH GUERRA, and
JACOB VASQUEZ came on for one inning each to preserve the shutout.
At the plate,
TJ GISELBACH hit his sixth home run of the season as he went 1-for-3 with two runs and three RBI.
HUNTER COURSON recorded multiple hits, going 2-for-4 with two RBI.
WILLIAM HAIRSTON and
MILES WRIGHT each stole a base.
St. Edward's (30-18, 14-10 Heartland) secures its sixth-straight season of 30 wins or more. Panhandle State (10-40, 3-21 Heartland) ends its final season in the conference with three-straight losses.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- Courson opened the scoring for St. Edward's in the bottom of the second inning with a two-RBI single.
- The Aggies broke up Boone's no-hitter with a single in the fourth inning.
- Giselbach's home run in the sixth frame put the Hilltoppers ahead, 5-0.
- Wright and Hairston capped the scoring in the seventh inning on a stolen base and RBI single from Whitacre.
HILLTOPPER NOTES
- St. Edward's has won 22-straight games against Panhandle State.
- The last time the Hilltoppers shut out three straight opponents was in 2010.
- ROMEO CORTINA has reached base safely in 30 consecutive games.
- Head Coach Rob Penders has closed the regular season with a win four of the last five years.
