THE RUNDOWN
GOLDEN, Colo. –
BLAKE ALEXANDER looked to be the hero with a solo shot to put St. Edward's baseball team ahead in the top of the ninth inning, however, they could not hold off the Colorado School of Mines' rally as they captured the 11-10 walk-off victory Friday night to open the four-game series at Jim Darden Field.

The Hilltoppers' (3-3) held the momentum for the first portion of the game, highlighted by six runs in the first three innings. However, with an 8-3 lead heading to the bottom of the sixth, the Orediggers (3-1) began their rally, scoring two runs in the sixth, seventh, and eighth inning to tie the game at nine. In the top of the ninth frame facing two outs, Alexander hit his seventh career bomb to right field in an attempt to put pressure on the home team. But Colorado Mines responded in the bottom by juicing the bases with just one out. Moments later, two walks by RYAN HILL gave the Orediggers the 11-10 win.

Hill (0-1) was charged with the loss while CSM's Gabe Garvens (2-0) claimed the win with just 1.2 innings pitched with no strikeouts. JUAN CORTINA started on the bump for the SEU, tossing six innings and fanned nine batters. Walter Pennington did most of the work for the Orediggers with five strikeouts in five innings.
