THE RUNDOWN
AUSTIN, Texas –
Another late surge from St. Edward's baseball almost gave the club its first win over a nationally ranked team in the 2018 season. However, two long-balls by No. 23 Regis was the difference in the game as they walked away with a 6-4 win Friday at Lucian-Hamilton Field.

The Rangers (8-1) scored four runs in the third inning, highlighted by a three-run shot from Andrew Bryniarski to build a 4-0 lead over the Hilltoppers (5-5). SEU scored one run in the fourth and fifth inning and both teams tacked on another in the seventh before WILLIAM HAIRSTON's RBI sacrifice fly in the eighth made the score 5-4. Another dinger from RU's Coby Zimmerman in the ninth halted the rally though, and the Rangers went on to open the series with a 6-4 victory.

JUAN CORTINA (1-2) picked up the loss after throwing five innings where he punched out seven. CHRIS LOGAN and AUSTIN WEAVER each recorded two strikeouts in relief, and JOEL MILLER and JAKE DAVIS also saw the field in the losing effort.

HIGHLIGHTS
• WILLIAM HAIRSTON recorded his 20th career stolen base Friday vs. Regis.
• ROBBIE LAMMONS (2-for-3, RBI), TJ GISELBACH (2-for-4, one run), and BLAKE ALEXANDER (2-for-4, one run, one stolen base) each recorded two hits.
• ZACH SCHINDLER recorded his 25th career run Friday vs. Regis.
• Schindler recorded his 5th career double in the sixth inning (third this season).
• DYLAN MACKIN recorded his first career double.
• TROY ANDERSON's RBI bunt single in the fourth was his 15th career hit.

STAT OF THE GAME I
10 – St. Edward's left ten batters on base in the setback.

THEY SAID IT
Head Coach Rob Penders on the difference in today's game…
"We didn't get the big hit. We had runners in scoring position a lot of times today and that's a credit to their [Regis] pitching staff and what they did against us. They executed their game plan, we just came up a little bit short."

Penders on what needs to be done moving forward in this series…
"We've got to do a little bit better job offensively moving runners and not giving up the big hit on the defensive side. If we can eliminate that for the rest of the weekend and get going on offense a little bit more with runners in scoring position then we should be in pretty good shape."
