THE RUNDOWN
AUSTIN, Texas – St. Edward's baseball flipped the script on No. 23 Regis, outscoring the nationally ranked team 13-2 to complete the doubleheader sweep Saturday at Lucian-Hamilton Field.
TANNER LAWSON tossed a complete game and recorded his first career solo shutout with four strikeouts en route to the 7-0 win in game one.
TJ GISELBACH registered his 75
th career home run also in game one, and followed that milestone with a 2-for-5 performance at the dish and a game-high three RBIs in the 6-2 victory.
Â
It was a pitchers duel through two and a half innings in game one before the Hilltoppers (7-5) put together back-to-back three-run innings behind three homeruns. SEU tacked on another in the sixth and Lawson (3-1) shut the door in the top of the seventh in the shutout win.
Â
The Rangers (8-3) struck first in game two in the second inning, but
JACOB VASQUEZ belted his first dinger of the season in the fourth to tie things up. SEU would follow the long-ball with yet another three-run inning in the fifth stanza and despite a run crossing in the seventh for Regis, a two RBI triple to right field by Giselbach wrapped things up in the bottom of the eighth, 6-2.
AUSTIN WEAVER (1-0) logged his fifth career win on the rubber after punching out three in 2.2 innings pitched.
COOPER BAILEY started on the bump and threw 3.1 innings with two strikeouts and earned one run, while

THEY SAID IT
Head Coach Rob Penders on his team's response to his challenge…
"We were a lot more aggressive at the plate and like I told them, when we do that we kind of take it to the other team a little bit and that's how you want to play. On the offensive end you want to be the aggressor and were able to do that today and that's what you saw and why we got the results that we did."
Â
Penders on mindset heading into the final game of the series…
"We need to win. Like I told them, we haven't capitalized on a weekend yet where we've won the weekend except for the first weekend in a three-game series. We're going to be playing four-game series in the conference so we want to make sure we get use to this. We're going to be in this position as the season goes on so we want to get the feeling of getting that last win which sometimes it's the most difficult. Especially if you feel good and you rest on your whirls a little bit and we don't want to do that. We want to play the best that we can and if we do that then we feel like we have a good chance."Â Â Â
