THE RUNDOWN
AUSTIN, Texas –
Homecoming 2018 did not disappoint as the St. Edward's baseball team went 14 innings with No. 23 Regis to grab ahold of a 2-1 victory at Lucian-Hamilton Field. After dropping the opener, the Hillltoppers won three straight to overcome the nationally ranked club in the series, 3-1. On Sunday, senior TROY ANDERSON hit a game-winning RBI single in the bottom of the 14th inning, and freshman pitcher BLAKE HOLUB threw six innings in relief, striking out five to register his first career win on the rubber.

BLAKE ALEXANDER and TJ GISELBACH both batted .500 (3-for-6), while ROBBIE LAMMONS was 2-for-5 and recorded the winning run.

The Hilltoppers (8-5) got on the board early in the first inning when DANIEL PRIWIN plated Alexander with a double to left field. After four scoreless innings, two errors in the sixth proved costly for SEU as the Rangers (8-4) tied the game with an unearned run.

Eight innings later, a leadoff single by Lammons and a swiped bag got things started for SEU. ZACH SCHINDLER walked, and EVERETT FEATHERSTON laid down a beautiful sac bunt to advance both runners one base. With runners in scoring position and facing a full count, Anderson sent a blooper to right field and Lammons broke free to end the 14-inning battle.

EVAN TUBBS started on the bump for the Hilltoppers and tossed five innings with two strikeouts. CHRIS LOGAN came out of the bullpen for three innings, logging one strike out, and Holub closed the game after entering in the eighth frame.

THEY SAID IT
Head Coach Rob Penders on the importance of this win…
"Well a win is a win, it doesn't matter how big it is. Obviously, at home we wanted to win a ballgame and win a series and that's what we were able to do. It was good to see that and good to see the guys fight for as long as we did. Our pitching was outstanding today again so it was fun to see."
