BSB Picks up Series Win in Walk-Off Fashion

Hilltoppers defeat the RiverHawks, 5-4

Box Score THE RUNDOWN
AUSTIN, Texas –
TJ GISELBACH's second RBI in the bottom of the ninth was too hot to handle for the shortstop and ZACH SCHINDLER sprinted home on an error to help St. Edward's University overcome Northeastern State's rally and capture the first series win of the year.

The Hilltoppers (2-1) controlled majority of the contest, heading into the eighth inning with a 4-1 lead behind two dingers from ROBBIE LAMMONS and Schindler. The RiverHawks (1-2) rallied back, scoring three runs in the top of the eighth to tie the game, but a walk, wild pitch, and a single by RYAN MCPHAIL placed Schindler on the hot corner with only one out in the ninth inning. After Lammons was intentionally walked, Giselback stepped to the plate and ripped one to left field that bounced off of the shortstop, sending Schindler home for the win.

THEY SAID IT
Head Coach Rob Penders thoughts on his team's ability to grind out the win…
"It's huge, I told my guys now we have the confidence to be able to do that. Hopefully next time we're more prepared for it and better at it. That's what you want at the beginning of the year. It's tough to lose games like this, especially at home early when you have a lead and you're kind of cruising and then all of a sudden you give it up, so I was glad to see that not happen and for us to get the victory was a big step in the right direction for this team."

Schindler on his all-around performance…
"At the plate I'm doing the best to try and hit a ball hard. Thankfully I got a good pitch I can handle and was able to lift it to get it out which was good. Defensively, we had talked about maybe me going in to pitch if we had a lefty come up and coaches had me prepared for it and we got it done."
