THE RUNDOWN
SEARCY, Ark. –
TJ GISELBACH and WILLIAM HAIRSTON cleared the fence Friday as St. Edward's baseball team split the doubleheader vs. Harding at Jerry Moore Field. SEU took game one 4-1 before dropping game two, 3-1.

The Hilltoppers' (3-2) offense came out firing on all cylinders and recorded 13 hits over nine innings in the series opener with the Bisons (2-3). JUAN CORTINA (1-1) also put in work and was credited the win after setting a new career-high with 9 strikeouts in seven innings pitched. Giselbach was responsible for the first two runs after a sacrifice fly that scored Hairston in the first inning, followed by a solo shot in the third to put SEU on top 2-0. The visiting club tacked on two more runs in the sixth inning, thanks to a fielding error after ZACH SCHINDLER's single that brought Derrick Ramos home, and a single to right field by ROBBIE LAMMONS that drove in Schindler. Harding put one run on the board in the bottom of the eighth, but JAKE DAVIS closed the game with two strikeouts in 2 innings pitched to record his first career save.

It looked as though the bats would stay hot for the second game after a lead off homerun by Hairston in the first inning that gave the Hilltoppers a 1-0 advantage. Harding would respond with three unanswered runs however, including a long-ball from Grant Guest in the bottom of the sixth inning. Tanner Smith (1-1) picked up the win after tossing 5.1 innings with three strikeouts and Reed Roberts received the save with just one inning of work. TANNER LAWSON (1-1) was charged with the loss after pitching all six innings and struck out four.
