Alexander Shines in BSB Win to Open Conference Tournament

The Hilltoppers increase their conference-winning streak to 11

THE RUNDOWN
CLEBURNE, Texas –
The Heartland Conference Baseball Tournament opened with the No. 1 seed St. Edward's baseball team continuing its hot streak, defeating UAFS, 6-2 Thursday at The Depot at Cleburne Station. BLAKE ALEXANDER was 3-for-4 at the plate with a home run in the fourth, and TANNER LAWSON tossed his ninth complete game this season to propel the Hilltoppers to their 11th consecutive conference tournament win. 
 
The Lions scored first after Troy Cahill singled to left field to drive in the first run in the third, but the Hilltoppers clapped back quickly and consistently with runs in the third, fourth, and fifth frames, highlighted by Alexander's two-out solo shot in the fifth for a 3-1 lead. UAFS' Kyle Love responded with a homer in the sixth, but SEU closed the game out with three runs in the eighth that was capped with ROBBIE LAMMONS' two-RBI double.
 
Lawson improved to 11-2 this season after punching out eight batters, walked three, and earned one run. Javon Rigsby (6-5) was charged the loss with four strikeouts in 7.1 innings.

 

HIGHLIGHTS
• SEU has won six consecutive Heartland Conference Tournament games vs. UAFS and improves to 16-1 in the tournament since 2013.
• BLAKE ALEXANDER's first hit was the 100th of his career with the Hilltoppers. Alexander also logged his 29th career multiple-hit game and 14th on the year.
• Alexander's HR was the 7th this year, which is tied for a team-high.
• DYLAN MACKIN and ZACH SCHINDLER registered their ninth multiple-hit games this season.
• ROBBIE LAMMONS logged his third multiple RBI game this season.
