Box Score AUSTIN – The Hilltopper offense was quiet until a ninth inning rally but the Hilltoppers were unable to make up the deficit, falling 7-4 in game two of the series Saturday.
LCU got on the board first with a leadoff homerun in the third inning, but
MARCO BECERRIL was able to work out of a jam with runners at second and third to prevent more damage.
The Chaps used a consistent stream of offense to put the Hilltoppers in a huge hole late.
JACOB VASQUEZ logged the only hit of the game for St. Edward's before the ninth inning when St. Edward's attempted a late rally.
DYLAN MACKIN led off the inning with a single and
TYLER DEAN followed suit.
NOLAN BURR was hit by the pitch to load the bases and put two runners in scoring position for the first time.
MORGAN ALLEN reached on a hit by pitch, driving in the first SEU run of the game with
ALAN VILLARREAL following with a four-pitch walk to bring in the second.
LCU made a change on the mound but St. Edward's continued on, scoring their third run on a wild pitch and
TRENT ROSENAUER singled to right field for an RBI and bringing SEU within three, 7-4.
Another pitching change finally sealed the win for LCU and dashed the Hilltoppers' comeback hopes.
Becerril suffered the loss on the mound, allowing one run on five hits with three walks and five strikeouts in four innings of work.
SEU falls to 0-2 on the season and 0-2 in Lone Star Conference play. They wrap up the series against Lubbock Christian on Sunday at 1 pm.
