Baseball suffers second straight loss to Buffaloes

CANYON – No. 13 West Texas A&M scored six runs in both the second and third innings en route to a 14-2 victory in the second game of a Lone Star Conference series Saturday at Wilder Park.

The Hilltoppers (1-4, 1-4 LSC) took a 1-0 lead in the top of the second on HUNTER TORREZ's run-scoring single. However, the Buffaloes (4-1, 4-1 LSC) answered in the bottom of the frame with six runners crossing the plate, including two on Luke Hughes' homer.

The Buffs blew it open in the following stanza with six more runs, including a three-run homer from Izaiah Madrid.

SEU tallied its only other run in the fourth, as TY MARKEE connected for a solo home run.

West Texas A&M racked up 13 hits in the run-rule shortened contest, while the Hilltoppers were limited to only four.

Zach Dixon (2-0) allowed two runs on four hits and two walks with six strikeouts over six innings to earn the win. MARCO BECERRIL (0-2) took the look after yielding six runs (four earned) in 1.2 innings.

The final game of the series will be played Sunday. First pitch is slated for 1 p.m.
