Hilltoppers' postseason run comes to an end at LSC Tournament

Box Score SAN ANGELO, Texas – A strong start to the game gave way to a huge offensive inning by the Chaps as St. Edward's baseball fell 19-9 to Lubbock Christian Friday. The loss leads to the Hilltoppers' end to their postseason run.
 
St. Edward's started off strong offensively to take an early lead. MORGAN ALLEN started things off by taking the first pitch he saw to the back and advanced to second on CHASE COS's ground out to third. BLAKE HOLUB walked, putting runners at first and second. With two outs, DAVIS DREWEK took the plate and drove the ball into right center, scoring Holub and Allen for the first two runs. Drewek hustled around the third and the throw to third sailed into the Hilltopper dugout, sending Drewek home for the third run of the inning.
 
TURNER OLSON's sacrifice bunt moved KYLER KERLIN, who reached on a leadoff single, to third  base and Allen brought him home with a grounder to short, extending the Hilltopper lead to 4-0.
 
Lubbock Christian was able to get runners on in the opening inning on starting pitcher JACK GRANACK, but one swing by Gordon cleared the bases with a grand slam shot to left field, tying the game 4-4 in the top of the third.
 
Another big Hilltopper inning highlighted by a two-RBI double by Drewek put SEU up four once again, 8-4, in the fourth.
 
LCU was quick to respond, chipping away at the lead with three runs in the fifth followed by two in the seventh to lead for the first time, 9-8.
 
Back-to-back homeruns by the Chaps in the eighth extended their lead to three, 11-8, and opened up a plethora of runs. When all was said and done in the inning, LCU had scored ten and led 19-8.
 
St. Edward's was unable to recover in the final two innings, scoring one run in the bottom of the ninth, to end the season.

Allen went 3-5 on the afternoon with two runs and one RBI with DYLAN MACKIN posting a 3-4 afternoon at the plate. Drewek ended the day 2-4 with one double, one triple, a walk and four RBIs. 

The Hilltoppers end the year with a 17-23 overall mark.
