SAN ANGELO, Texas - The St. Edward's baseball team lost 14-7 to #2 seed West Texas A&M in the opening game of the LSC Championship Finals.
The Hilltoppers fell into an early hole down 4-0, entering the top of the fourth. An error and a walk set the plate for Eric Worden, who smashed a three-run home run to center field to bring the Hilltoppers within one run.
Jake Hahn tied the game in the fifth with an RBI single to right field. Stacey Bailey later drove in a run on a sacrifice fly to put the Hilltoppers up 5-4 for their first lead of the game.
In the sixth, Davis Drewek hit a solo home run over the center-field wall to extend SEU's lead to 6-4.
The Buffs would score five runs in the bottom of the fifth and two more runs in the bottom of the sixth to take an 11-6 lead.
In the top of the eighth, Davis Drewek hit his second home run to bring the score to 11-7.
Later in the inning, the Buffs drove in three runs to bring the final score to 14-7.
Jack Granack pitched five-plus innings giving up six earned runs on ten hits while striking out four batters in the loss.
The Hilltoppers are back in action tomorrow to face the loser of tonight's Angelo State/UT Tyler matchup at Foster Field. First pitch is set for 11 am.
