Box Score

SAN ANGELO, Texas -  On Friday, thunderstorms in west Texas pushed the start of the 7pm semi-final game to 10:30 pm,  just to have another lightning delay four batters into the first inning pushing the game to Saturday.    There were no thunderstorms on Saturday but, unfortunately, the West Texas A&M bats brought enough lightning to produce 22 hits, defeating the Hilltoppers 27-5.

The Hilltoppers fell behind early , giving up five runs in the first on two multi-RBI home runs.

After a scoreless second, the Buffs drove in multiple runs in each of the following six innings.

The Hilltoppers drove in four runs on two extra-base hits at the bottom of the sixth. Eric Worden drove in a run on an RBI ground-rule double to right field. Davis Drewek drove in three runs on a three-run homer to bring the score to 22-4.

They added another run in the seventh when Chase Cos drove in a run on a fielder's choice.  But it was too little, too late.

Luke Short was given the loss, pitching 2.1 innings, giving up nine runs on three hits while striking out four batters.

Offensively Eric Worden finished the game 2-4 with two doubles and an RBI. Davis Drewek went 2-2 with a home run and three RBI.

The Hilltoppers' record is 30-23. They will find out if their season continues when the  NCAA DII selection show airs Sunday at 9pm.
