The National Collegiate Baseball Writers of America released its latest national and regional rankings, moving the St. Edward's Hilltoppers into the top 25 nationally at No. 15 and third in the South Central Region.
St. Edward's is off to a 6-0 start after a season-opening road sweep against Texas A&M-Kingsville and a pair of wins against Colorado State-Pueblo.
The Hilltoppers are the second-highest-ranking team from the Lone Star Conference, trailing Angelo State (8-0), which is third in the nation and tops in the region. St. Edward's is currently No. 10 in the country in scoring, averaging 11.5 runs per game. In addition, the Hilltoppers rank sixth in home runs (13) and 14th in strikeout-to-walk ratio (3.5).
St. Edward's will host West Texas A&M this weekend for a four-game series in the Hilltoppers' home opener. The Buffaloes are 5-3 to start the season, ranking fifth in the region and receiving votes in the national poll.
