Sixth-ranked Hilltoppers blast UT-Permian Basin, 8-0

Box Score AUSTIN, Texas – The St. Edward's women's soccer team kept things rolling by blasting UT-Permian Basin, 8-0, Thursday afternoon at Lewis-Chen Family Field. The victory gave St. Edward's a perfect 6-0 record. The 6-0 start is the best in school history.
 
St. Edward's (6-0, 2-0 HC) didn't waste any time getting on the scoreboard. In the eighth minute, Taylor Wiseman (Georgetown, Texas)  took a pass from MEGAN ANDERSON (Austin, Texas/Bowie HS) down the right side of the field. From just outside the 18-yard box, Wiseman sent a shot far post and beat the Falcon keeper for a 1-0 lead.
 
The Hilltoppers would add to their lead in the 23rd minute when LAUREN HELLER (Fort Worth, Texas/Keller Fossil Ridge) would find RIANA SOOBADOO (London, England/Beal HS) on a cross to the box where the sophomore would pound it in to the net for a 2-0 lead. Not more than a minute later, Heller was at it again, setting up VALENCIA MOBLEY (Murphy, Texas/Home School) for her first collegiate goal.
 
RACHEL MURRAY (Katy, Texas/Taylor HS) would cap off the first-half scoring in the 34th minute, when she took a TAYLOR SETTECERRI (Albuquerque, N.M./LaCueva HS) pass and tapped it in for a 4-0 lead at the break.
 
St. Edward's would outshoot the Falcons, 15-2 in the first frame.
 
In the second half, it was Murray again. The junior forward picked off a short goal kick by UT-Permian Basin (0-6, 0-1 HC) and race towards the net. She beat the keeper near post for her second goal of the game and third of the season.
 
Anderson would join in the scoring in the 65th minute when she gathered a loose ball just outside of the box and went far post to beat the Falcon keeper.
 
MIKAYLA ENGEL (Austin, Texas/Westwood HS) would tally the final two goals for St. Edward's. In the 72nd minute, the sophomore midfielder back heeled a shot from six yards out off of a cornerkick taken by KELLY DAVIS (Houston, Texas/St. Agnes Academy). She would score the final goal of the game in the 90th minute. JACKIE MARTINEZ (Cypress, Texas/Cypress Ridge HS) set up the play with her cross in the box. It was touched over to Engel from AMBER BLACK (Medford, Ore./North Medford HS) off of the cross for the double assist.
 
St. Edward's outshot UT-Permian Basin, 32-2, and had 17 shots on goal compared to just one for the Falcons. They also had 10 cornerkicks compared to zero for UT-Permian Basin.
 
The Hilltoppers will be back in action against Heartland Conference newcomer McMurry in a non-conference matchup Saturday at noon. The Hilltopper Athletic Website will have live stats and video for the match.
