Box Score AUSTIN, Texas – The sixth-ranked St. Edward's women's soccer team has been on quite a tear to open the 2012 season. Saturday was no different as they downed Heartland Conference newcomer McMurry, 6-0, at Lewis-Chen Family Field. In the past three matches, St. Edward's has outscored its opponents, 19-1.
St. Edward's (7-0) peppered the McMurry goal in the first half with 14 shots compared just two for the War Hawks, but could only come up with one goal.
MIKAYLA ENGEL would get the Hilltoppers on the board in the 37
th minute when she lifted a shot from about 30 yards out and beat the McMurry keeper for a 1-0 lead.
In the second half, St. Edward's began to pour it on. They would outshoot the War Hawks, 23-0.
KELLY DAVIS would strike in the 50
th minute on an assist from
MEGAN ANDERSON. In the 55
th minute, Anderson picked up another assist, finding
RACHEL MURRAY on a through ball. Murray would score again in the 67
th minute on a header off of a cornerkick by
VALENCIA MOBLEY. Mobley would score a goal of her own in the 67
th minute as she curled a ball in far-post from 40 yards out to make it 5-0.
Engel would cap off the scoring in the 71
st minute as she headed the ball in off of a cross by
ARI GARCIA.
St. Edward's has outscored its opponents, 26-3 through the first seven matches of the season. In the past two matches, the Hilltoppers have outshot the opposition, 69-4.
The Hilltoppers will be back in action Thursday when they travel to take on Heartland Conference rival, Newman. Kickoff is set for 5 p.m. in Wichita, Kan. Live coverage will be available on the Jet Athletic Website.
