How It Happened
-St. Edward's took an early 1-0 lead in the first inning when CYDNEY ERVIN led off with a bunt single, stole second, and came around to score on an RBI-single by KENDALL LUCAS.
-After Incarnate Word took a 2-1 lead in the second inning, the Hilltoppers would knot the score, 2-2 in the bottom of the third inning. After ALLY VALDEZ drew a two-out walk, KP PERCH launched an RBI-double to right center to score Valdez.
-With one out and runners on first and second in the sixth inning, BRIANNA BOZON stepped to the plate and singled to centerfield to score MARISSA THOME and then SAMANTHA GILMORE scored from first when the Cardinal centerfielder fumbled the ball.
-SARAH DEBROW pitched around a leadoff walk in the seventh to pick up the victory in relief.
 
Beyond the Box Score
-In a total team effort, seven different St. Edward's hitters collected a hit.
-The 4-1 start for St. Edward's is its best since 2008 when they also started 4-1 in the St. Mary's DII Collegiate Classic. That was also the year the Hilltoppers made a run to the NCAA World Series and finished tied for third in the nation.
-St. Edward's finishes all alone in second in the 14-team tournament.
